The origin of the name “Skype”

Just a quickie. The best kind of course (I am referring to the short length of this post by the way).

Have you ever wondered where the word “Skype” came from? No, then you probably have a social life. Well I have wondered about the name, being a user of their software, and if you have too, here is the answer.

I am quite surprised that the whole of the internet community cannot derive the root meaning of “skype”. It derives from old references to people that use tactics to get money or valuables from unsuspecting people. The words “scam” “cheat” “swindle” are often used in references to a very old word “skype”.

Many old books written in the grand time of British and Irish literature refer to the word “skype” with such innate meaning.

Any newly derived meanings of “skype” to give credance to a free interchange of information……have no basis in linquistic history. I doubt that the company “Skype” got the name there……….but simply overlooked it as the wee young ones that they are.

But if you want to know the real meaning of “skype” then you have to set your search to centuries ago……..and not to the time of the recent baby code writers that assume they have a lock on the history of anything to do with the net.

To assume they have the answers……..does indeed imply that you have been “skyped”

“The Truth is Indeed Out There” ……it just takes a little work to find it……..and the newbie hacks can’t endure the work.

So now you have the truth……I doubt if one has anything to do with other……as the real truth is often just separated by time and only time.

    “Sky
peer-to-peer”, which was then abbreviated to “Skyper”. However,
some of the domain names associated with “Skyper” were already
taken.Dropping the final “r” left the current title
“Skype”, for which domain names were available.
